Bad Golfers Tend to Ignore Their Bodies

Jan 15, 2015 5:34 PM
A golfer has to come to the realization that heshe needs help regardless how good they may think their golf swing is. Look at the results. I joined this other guy one day on the course and he consistently topped the ball. Shot after shot swing after swing he would hit a ground burner. Very gently and non-offensive I told him I used to do the same and what helped me quit doing that. He smiled and continued topping the ball. Some golfers are just idiots and apparently want to stay that way.

Alright enough already; lets see how we can improve our swings. The 1st thing is the setup. Usually poor golfers have a poor setup. The setup is of the utmost importance. A perfect setup will go a long way in your swing producing a good shot. Even if the swing isnt that great you have a better chance of a decent result with the proper setup.

The proper setup will keep you in balance throughout the swing. If youre losing your balance even slightly its time you looked at your setup. The correct setup comes with correct training and even more important: exercising and conditioning of the muscles you use in your entire body for the swing. A bad golfer will more often than not be the sort of person who does not do golf-specific exercises aimed at improving their golf. The result is that they will not even be able to tell the difference between a good setup position and a bad one simply because they will tend to feel uncomfortable in both.

Golf is physically demanding on the body. You probably swing your driver at speeds of up to 100 mph. This puts a lot of pressure on various body parts including your muscles tendons joints and ligaments.

You really should go to the gym and do some strengthening exercises. Ask that fitness instructor what exercises you need to do specific to golf. Along with strengthening exercises you need to perform stretches. This can be done anywhere and should be done every day especially on the golf course before you get ready to play. Ignore your friends if they laugh at you; theyll come around when they see the improvement in your game.

By getting your body in shape you have a much better chance of improving your golf mechanics and having the swing that your friends will envy. If you continue to ignore your body your game will continue to suffer for it as there is no chance for real improvement.

So in summary work out strengthen your body and stretch it out for lower golf scores. All this is even more vital for older golfers. I once called a golf course and ask at what age senior discounts began to apply. He said 60 and I said Oh shucks Im only 59. He replied that I should be happy to just be 59 and to enjoy it while I can and you know; he is right. So go out get fit and have fun on these beautiful golf courses we have to play on.
