About Your Golf Clubs

Feb 3, 2015 11:09 PM

A standard golf set consists of 14 golf clubs, and this number is also the maximum number of clubs you can bring. No one can bring more than 14 golf clubs to a course, or your score doesn't count. There are five types of golf clubs: driver, fairway wood, iron, wedge, and putter.

Golf club types: Wood, Iron, Hybrid and Putter

Every golf club is labeled with a number, which is the number of that golf club, usually the number is from 1 to 9, the smaller the number, the longer the golf club, which makes it harder to play. The most commonly used iron golf clubs are from number 3 to number 9, and only the top players use number 1 to 2(Eldrick Tont Woods). Male golfers usually use No.1, No.3 and No.5 wood, while female golfers usually use No.1, No.2 and No.4 wood. Hybrids are a cross between a wood and an iron, so they do not have strict numbers. According to the club face angle, they are chosen to take place of different numbers of iron or wood golf clubs. Putters also do not have numbers.

GOLF CLUB CONSTRUCTION

Grip: The grip is the part the golfer holds on to while swinging. Main design goal of a grip is to be comfortable and slip-proof under different kinds of weather. There are many different grip materials, but the most common ones are rubber. Professional golfers prefer cotton thread, which is more slip proof during rain. A mix of cotton and rubber is also a great choice.

Shaft: A lot of new golfers don't think shaft is important, and they focus more on the functions and styles of the club head. However, the shaft is the most important part of a club. Most of the cost for a club is the shaft. That's why fake clubs can have almost the same club head as the real ones, but are much cheaper. The shaft plays a big role in making a club feel good. It's made from two materials: carbon and steel. The carbon shaft is light, soft and comfortable, but not so stable. A steel shaft is heavy, hard and stable. When choosing a club, the shaft is a very big factor.

Club head: The club head represents the club. It has all kinds of styles and designs. In terms of material, there is forged club head and molded club head. In design, there's three kinds: Blade back, half blade back and cavity back. The different styles are designed for people who are at different levels. The cavity back club head usually works better for beginners.

Striking face: The striking face is the front part of the club head, and also the part that touches the golf ball when hitting. The striking face is made from many different kinds of materials. Differences in design or the materials used in the striking face will have big effects on the feel of the club. The center of striking face is called "sweet spot". If you hit the golf ball with this spot, you'll feel wonderful and sweet.
