5 Ways to Hit the Golf Ball Higher

Feb 19, 2015 10:41 PM
1. Get your golf clubs custom fit correctly.

Getting your golf clubs fitted correctly could help you to hit the ball higher straight away. There are so many different head and shaft combinations available now days, that a good custom fitter could put a higher launching shaft in your set of clubs very easily. If you're thinking about getting custom fit, or just buying a new set of clubs I would recommend that you tell the custom fitter exactly what it is you're looking for in your ball flight, so that you don't end up with something you don't want.

2. Tilt your spine behind the golf ball.

When you tilt your spine behind the ball, this basically means that you lower your right shoulder at address so that you feel well behind the ball. Sometimes if you push your hips towards the target then this will help your shoulder tilt back. You will hit the ball higher because your bodies launch angle is now much higher. Notably, tilting your spine away from the target is incredibly important with the driver, this will help you to launch the ball with less spin

3. Ball Position.

Check where your ball position is by standing in front of a mirror with a 7 iron setup. The ball should right in the center of your stance. If the ball is towards the back of your stance, you need to move it forwards, this will be key to why you're hitting the ball too low at the moment. All you need to do to fix this is adjust the ball position an inch or two further forward, until the trajectory is exactly what you want. Beware! Do not move your ball position any further than a little past the center of you stance with the shorter clubs, this could bring in a whole load of other problems.

4. Keep your head behind the golf ball.

Keeping your head behind the golf ball is vital in your swing, VITAL! It will correct a whole host of problems. Mainly lack of distance and shots that fly too low. You need to focus on making a nice big turn behind the ball and then keeping your head in the same position as your body rotates through to the target.

5. Compress the golf ball.

Compression is when you squash the ball at impact to make it fly further. To compress the golf better you need to hit down on the golf ball. Hit down on the ball and it will fly high. A good technique to practicing this is to force for right side down to the ball and make sure your right arm really extends and forces the ball into the ground. Just focusing on hitting the ball down into the ground and not up into the air!
