When you come to Las Vegas, you want to experience some things you may not have the opportunity to back home. Unless you are from the Carolinas, playing golf at the Desert Pines Golf Club is one of those experiences. This unique experience, along with all the amenities you would expect at your private country club back home, mean you’re in for a real treat! Desert Pines is operated by Eagle Golf.
golfworld-readers-choiceYou will know Desert Pines is for golfers when you first enter the clubhouse through the front double doors. Take a moment and admire the display of high quality framed photos of some of the legends of the game from the 30′s and 40′s. Walter Hagen and Francis Ouimet are joined there by Champion Claude Harmon at the 1948 Masters on Augusta National’s #13, pant legs rolled up and hitting out of wet marsh area. There is Bobby Jones, smoking a cigar and dapper Gene Sarazan, sitting on the grass as a spectator. Desert Pines was built for, and is run by, people who love and respect this great game and it’s history.
Opening in February of 1997, the course underwent extensive renovation in the summer of 2007. All 18 greens were completely rebuilt and topped with a bent grass putting surface that provides a tour quality experience.  Aesthetic and ecological enhancements were also made.
A Golf Digest Top 50 Resort Course – this is a fun course playing to 6,810 yards from the championship tees. Desert Pines offers three sets of teeing areas and a par of 71 that challenges and keeps the interest of all skill levels.   Generous mounding separates the fairways and can often result in lucky breaks, as a hastily stuck ball can bounce back into the fairway.
desert-pines-hole-by-hole-video-tourPlenty of bunkers, water and some narrow fairway stretches are great equalizers to provide a fair challenge to both long ball hitters and those with a good short game. This is a course that rewards good course management skills and provides players of all abilities a fun and enjoyable experience and may very well require you to use every club in your bag.
The greens are challenging and are reflective of the “Dye-abolical” contouring for which Dye-designs are renown. Of course you will find his trademark railroad ties throughout the property, tricky undulations in the green and plenty of breaks to keep your putting eye sharp. A little known secret: Unless you’ve experienced it firsthand, the wind can pick up ferociously at any time in Las Vegas. There is nothing more unpleasant than getting a couple holes into your round and experiencing fierce 20-30 mph wind gusts. That is not a worry at Desert Pines – the property sits lower than any other Las Vegas golf course and has thousands of mature pine trees lining each and every fairway that act as your personal force field when mother nature imposes a sneak attack on your Las Vegas golf vacation.
Adding a little gaming excitement to the round, Desert Pines offers a “Par Three Challenge” for those golfers who wish to test their skill.  This is one of a very few “bets” in Las Vegas that you can not lose on.  Redeem your winnings on great merchandise in the golf shop.
Refreshment cars circulate the golf course to provide you with any food and beverage needs you may have as well.
