5 Tips for Beginners Learning to Play Golf

Feb 19, 2015 10:41 PM
If you want to start playing golf you can be really daunted in the beginning with the difficulty in playing well. Golf is not an easy sport and it requires a lot of practice and patience. Following are 5 basic tips that will make it really easy for you to learn the game and enjoy it along the way.

Tip #1 - Take a few lessons at the beginning. It is very important to find a good golf instructor and learn the basics like the grip, stance, postures, the swing and putting. Make sure you learn it from a proper instructor or else your technique, especially your golf swing, will have flaws that will be very hard to change in the future.

Tip #2 - At the start of playing golf just stick to the driving range and don't try to play a full course. It will only discourage you. Keep applying what you learn in your lessons there until you are confident that you have got the basics right. After that you can venture out on the easier holes and you will enjoy the game more.

Tip #3 - Many beginners just don't have the patience to keep playing golf and most times they quit the game before they have really begun. So it is important that you don't spend a lot of money on golf clubs in the beginning. This way, even if you don't keep playing the game you don't lose a lot of money on the clubs. Buy cheap golf clubs first and when you start improving in your golf game then buy better ones.

Tip #4 - As with all sports, if you really want to improve at golf there is only one way, practice. Practice as much as you can, always focusing on a certain aspect of your game and trying to improve that. First your golf swing then your putting ability, try to hit the ball farther or higher, play difficult shots, learn to play according to the conditions etc. In short, always keep a goal in mind while you are working on your game.

Tip #5 - It is important that you know all the rules of the games, etiquette and even attire, as they are considered a very important part of the game itself. Golf clubs always promote honesty, honor and respect and you should conduct yourself in an appropriate manner whenever you are on the golf course.

So if you want to learn to play golf then follow these tips to get started. Remember to get lessons from a golf teaching professional, learn the basics on the driving range, don't overspend on clubs in the beginning, practice a lot methodically and know the rules and etiquette of the game. If you do these things you'll have a better start and enjoy yourself a lot more when you play golf.
