Choosing Equipment

Feb 3, 2015 11:24 PM

It is not so hard to notice what is important when playing golf, the golf club. Before choosing your clubs you must consider these six elements.

1. Level of play: it is important to understand the level of your game. If you are looking to play occasionally and past time, a low-to-mid performance set of clubs will work enough. For those looking to play a little more often, a high performance set of clubs is more suitable. If you are new to the game of golf, buying a second hand set of clubs are highly recommended until you are confident that golf of game is for you.

2. Budget: Keep your budget in mind, since golf clubs can be very expensive. Do some research by reading reviews and decide on rough amount you would like to spend. A second hand set would provide you with golf clubs that can satisfy both the pleasure of game and reasonable price.

3. Height and Build: Your height is also very important. Do not buy clubs before trying and understanding your height. The length of your clubs can be determined by your height. It is simple the taller you are the longer the club you will need.

4. Material Preferences: Typically golf clubs are made of two materials, graphite or steel. The most preferred is steel material, as it benefits performance all around.

5. Flex of Club shaft: There are three main forms of flex available- regular, stiff and extra-stiff. The level of flex relays on an individual’s needs. In order to faster hit the ball the stiffer the flex should you have.

6. Lie angle of the club: The lie angle cannot be too upright or too flat; it refers to the angle of the club head. Since either will cause the club to hit the during a swing.

Make sure you investigate the heads, shafts and grips of each club in the set if you are considering to buy a second hand set. If clubs have been used for a long time it may have face wear, which can be seen by the worn areas on the club head. Do not purchase clubs that are worn off, since it will affect your experience and ability. Shaft of the clubs should also be smooth and should not have any worn areas. In order to check, grasp the shaft in one hand and the grip in another and twist in the opposite direction. If the clubs move it indicate that those weak set of clubs.

Checking the grip of clubs is also very important, since it will save you money from re-gripping the clubs. After checking all these elements, take clubs and test by hitting few swings. Without testing you will not be able to tell how the clubs will perform.

Standard set contains five clubs:

1. Woods: are clubs that are used for longer shots and they are longest and most difficult to handle during a swing. A standard bag contains a driver (called a 1-wood) and fairway woods (3 or 5 wood)

2. Irons: are clubs that are used for shorter shots , such as pitching, chipping, and flop shots. They are have a thin club heads with grooves on them, making them easy to identify.

3. Putter: is primarily used for plays from bunkers and for various plays on the final stage during the playing on the putting green.

4. Wedges: are clubs that are used for difficult and/or high shots, such as those shots from a bunker.

5. Hybrid clubs: are clubs that do not completely fit into any of these categories, they combine the features of both woods and irons, and are great for beginner players who are not able to purchase a large amount of clubs right at the beginning.

A golf bag is also required after you have decided and purchased appropriate clubs. A golf bag is made to ease transportation across the green. Make sure you do not purchase a heavy golf bag; a standard golf bag should be of the correct weight. It should have room for golf balls, tees, a pitch mark repairer, and a towel.

Beside golf clubs and golf bag, one must also have the right apparel. Golf shoes are equipped with plastic spikes, which supports players with a grip during a play. Golf gloves can also be found in many sport shops. It aims for improving a player grip on the club. If purchasing golf clubs and equipments is overwhelming, don’t forget to reach out for someone with experience.
