Painted Desert Golf Club ushered in the era of desert golf in Las Vegas. This exciting 6,781 yard layout is regarded as the original desert-style layout in Las Vegas having opened in 1987.
Painted Desert Golf Club was designed by the highly acclaimed golf course architect Jay Morrish. Morrish has designed many Top 100 gems including the likes of Talking Rock Golf Club in Prescott, Arizona; The Boulders in Scottsdale, AZ; Clint Eastwood's Tehama Golf Club in Carmel, California. For many years Jay Morrish also collaberated on designs with PGA Tour legend Tom Weiskopf, including TPC Scottsdale (home of the PGA Tour's Phoenix Open) and Forest Highlands in Flagstaff, Arizona;  Loch Lemond Golf Club in Scotland and Waikoloa Kings' Course on Hawaii's Big Island.
His design strategy implemented at many of these top courses is prevalant throughout your round at Painted Desert Golf Club. The par 72 layout at Painted Desert Golf Club is filled with golf variety and strategy. Premiums are placed on accuracy and shot making. Nowhere is that more evident then the with the par three's that are varied in length and design tests at 148, 188, 197 and 227 yards respectively from the "Back Tees". Morrish also created additional interest with creative mounding, challenging greens and intriguing landscape accents. While the meandering fairways are often guarded on each side by desert-style landscaping, the groomed desert offers golfers the option for an easy escape, a very forgiving layout.
Many of the tee boxes at Painted Desert are slightly elevated, giving golfer the chance to "see what's in front of them", no blind shots here. While all of the holes are memorable, the 193-yard, par 3 eighth hole is one of the the better tests as the tee shot from an elevate tee complex plays to a sloping green that is guarded by water in front and to the left as well as bunkers behind. The final two finishing holes are also distinct, in that the  535-yard, 17th serves up a reachable par five that provides a rare birdie opportunity late in your round, followed by the 404-yard par four 18th that provides a stern test on your final hole. A large bunker set to the left challenges the tee shot, which must carry far enough to find a level lie to set up the difficult second shot into one of the most interesting green complexes in the area. The 18th green is elevated, slopes significantly from back to front and is also surrounded by bunkers. Finishing birdie-par on these two holes will provide for a dramatic finish and will be sure to keep you coming back for more.
