How to avoid the "blow up" holes

Jul 16, 2014 10:51 AM
I usually shoot in the 90's, sometimes over 100, with a best ever of 89 (twice).  What hurts my scoring is the couple holes per round that really get away from me.  For instance, this past sunday I shot an even 90 (par 70) but I had a 3-hole stretch of +11.  After shooting a 41 on front nine, I started the back with a 9 (+5), 7 (+2), and 8 (+4).  On the next hole, I hit the green on a par 3, 2-putted for par, and was back on track the rest of the round.

Any ideas on how to minimize damage on your bad holes?  I didn't even have any penalties on these holes, it just started with a topped tee shot and I kept struggling and couldn't find that one good shot to minimize the damage and pull my game back together.

So I was +9 on 15 of the holes, and +11 on one 3-hole stretch.  Frustrating because I could have easily shot my lowest-ever score if I just double bogey those 3 bad holes.
