Comments: Shambolee Golf Course in Petersburg, IL, is located just minutes from Lincoln's New Salem State Park. This is where Abe Lincoln lived as a teenager and young adult. This 18 hole course of 6748 yards from the blue tees. It has a challenging layout. The condition of the course was outstanding. The staff was very friendly and concession were very inexpensive. I will be playing this course again.

Comments: Nestled in the countryside north of Springfield, Country Hills is a wonderful 18 hole layout. I played 18 holes on this day and loved it. Very reasonably priced too. I played on a Saturday was able to play 18 holes with a cart for $32. The layout of this course is very nice. The fairways have a good role, greens were fair. The course features a driving range along with a full clubhouse able to host any special event. The front nine features plenty of water and valleys. The back nine is features more flat areas, typical of Illinois. Concessions for this course are reasonable too. I paid $5.25 for a hot dog, chips, and 20oz soda. I have lived in Springfield all of my life and this was my first time I played the course. I really enjoyed it and look forward to playing again in the future.

Comments: Piper Glen Golf Course is one of the top golf courses in the state of Illinois. Located on the southwest side of Springfield, Piper Glen offers a great golf, a premiere clubhouse for weddings and outings, and one of the best pro shops in the area. I would say this is my favorite course. The reason why is because it is a challenging but fair golf course. This Par 72 eighteen hole course measures from 5100 yards from the Red tees to over 7000 yards from the gold tees. Piper Glen even ranks in the Golf Digest Top 50 Golf Courses under $50. Junior rates start as low as $12 walking for nine holes. The highest you will pay for a round of golf at Piper Glen is $49 for eighteen with a cart. The signature hole of Piper Glen is Hole #9. This Par 5 hole is dogleg right hole. The key is putting your tee shot in play. If you are out of bounds right or left, you are in trouble. Good players have a chance to reach this hole in two but they need to be mindful of the creek in front of the green. The green slopes toward the creek, so you need to watch how you putt. Piper Glen has hosted the Illinois State Amateur tournament. In my opinion, Piper Glen is the best golf course for an outing in Springfield. I can honestly say this playing a number of outings here. It is a great course and a real gem of a golf course in central Illinois.

Comments: Edgewood Golf Course is located just fifteen minutes outside of Springfield in Auburn, IL. This eighteen hole Par 71 course features a very demanding layout with plenty of trees and sloping fairways. This course is one of the most popular courses for golf outings in Sangamon County. There is a good mix of easy and tough holes. The green on Hole #13 reminds of you of Augusta with all of the slopes and speed. The rates for this course are very reasonable. Twilight rates allow you to play the course for as low as $10. What a bargain. The course boasts a nice pro shop and banquet facility good for weddings and outings. Edgewood is well worth the twenty minute drive to play a round of golf.

Comments: Brookhills Golf Course is located on the far west side of Springfield. The course opened in the early 1990's. It is nine hole Par 31 course. The first three holes are Par 3's and each are surrounded by a pond. If you are a beginning player, you might intimidated by the water. If you hit the ball just right, you should reach the green. There are four Par 4 holes on the course. The signature hole in my opinion is Hole #9. This Par 4 is dogleg right with water surrounding the right side and the front part of the green. If you place your tee shot on the fairway, you will have good second shot to get on the green. The course is equipped with its own driving range and lounge area. The rates to play nine holes range from $8 to $16. Cart rentals are available too. This is a nice course that is fun to play. Personally, I shot a 35 on the course. If you play the course just right, you should score pretty well too.

Comments: Pasfield Golf Course is one of the oldest golf courses in Springfield located near Washington Park. Pasfield is nine hole Par 34 course. The course has both easy and hard holes. It is possible to shoot a low score here if you play smart. One of the biggest challenges is keeping your ball in play on Holes 1 through 4. All of these holes bump up against two busy streets in Springfield. The signature hole on the course is #8. The Par 4 #8 is challenging from the start. The tee sits at the highest part of the course and you have decision to lay up before the creek or go over it. This hole is dogleg right and green slopes toward the creek. It is one of the most challenging holes in town. If you are familiar with Springfield, you see the reason why this course is used as the top sledding venues during the winter. One interesting feature of the course is that are no bunkers. That is both a good and bad thing because the rough is pretty thick. The Head Pro is awesome and one of the best teaching pros locally. The rates for the course are very reasonable to play nine holes. I think this is a true gem in Springfield.

Comments: I played this course along with my wife on our honeymoon. The course provides some of the best views of Las Vegas. This is a true Par 3 course as no hole measures longer than 185 yards. We played this course in the evening and this course is equipped with stadium lighting. A footnote, the evening we played the course, there were sustained winds of 40mph. Yes, I said 40mph. My one and only complaint was the pace of play. My wife and I were behind some slow and very inexperienced players which added time to our round. My wife shot her best nine hole score at this course. I would recommend this course if you are looking to play golf on a limited budget in Las Vegas.

Comments: I played Cotton Creek in 2008 and love this Arnold Palmer course. The course is very well maintained. The greens were firm but fair. The fairways had good role. Very picturesque course. If you are visiting the Gulf Shores area and looking to play golf, Cotton Creek would be my pick to play. I was impressed how nice the staff at Craft Farms was from the starter, the golf shop associates, and food. The rates to were not bad. In fact, they have went down since I played. Cotton Creek at Craft Farms is truly gem worthy of playing.
