Course Info

Illinois State University is a 71 par 18 hole course.
Opened in 1964 Robert B Harris was the course architect.
The course has a Open guest policy.
Club Type: Public.
The Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University was designed in 1962 by golf course architect Robert Bruce Harris. It was originally designed with a regulation length 9 hole course along the outside edges of the property with a shorter executive length 9 hole course in the middle. The course opened in May 1964 with University President Robert Bone hitting the first shot.

Today the 6,915 yard, par 71 golf course accommodates approximately 28,000 rounds per year and will host more than 100 tournaments and outings. These events include Men’s and Women’s Intercollegiate Athletics, State Champion Boys and Girls University High School home tournaments, the COUNTRY Youth Classic, the Illinois High School Association Boy’s State Final, and many fundraisers for local charities and scholarship groups.

During the 2000 season the course was closed to undertake an extensive renovations project designed and coordinated by PGA Champions Tour Player and ISU Alumnus D.A.Weibring and his company Golf Resources, Inc. The project included the installation of a new state of the art irrigation system, rebuilding all 18 greens and 2 practice greens, converting the tees and fairways to bentgrass, and reconstructing all bunkers to include drainage, Bunker Guard erosion control, and tour-quality Best Sand. The University Golf Course reopened for play in July 2001 to positive reviews throughout the state.

In September 2007 the golf course was renamed to Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State in honor of DA and his many contributions to the ISU Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams, the golf course, and the university in general.
